Airbiquity Enables Connected Services for Ford SYNC

LAS VEGAS – Airbiquity (www.airbiquity.com), a global leader in wireless connected services today announced the availability of its industry leading aqLink data-over-voice technology, and VIAaq managed data service platform. Ford (NASDAQ: FORD) also announced today its plans for future content for SYNC, including personalized traffic reports, turn-by-turn directions and other information from a number of best-in-class providers that will be delivered to vehicles through Airbiquity’s VIAaq service.

Today’s announcements herald the commercial availability of VIAaq, a comprehensive set of connected services providing seamless connectivity between content providers and a vehicle or Portable Navigation Device (PND) for a relatively low cost of entry.

Building on the tremendous success of its SYNC system, Ford’s latest SYNC enhancement now enables vehicles to connect to data services through Airbiquity’s patented aqLink wireless data communications technology. Combined with the VIAaq service platform, the technology allows for seamless data transfer between best-in-class content providers and the vehicle. Airbiquity’s model uses cellular voice networks and a Bluetooth connection to the driver’s own cell phone rather than relying on conventional data channels or expensive subscription-based solutions.

"Consumers demand relevant content and features as part of their in-car experience, including two-way connectivity. Airbiquity’s VIAaq helps us advance Ford SYNC to a new level of excellence and provide customers with the sophisticated features they desire at an affordable cost," said Doug VanDagens, Director, Ford Connected Services.

VIAaq is the gateway to a variety of connected service providers and hosts support for those services. In this way, VIAaq eliminates the operations and maintenance expenses associated with hosting or managing an independent data center. VIAaq’s adaptive architecture provides a flexible framework, allowing for expanded service offerings as mobile technologies evolve.

"Ford fully understands that delivering the smart, connected vehicle experience is paramount to Ford’s overall success," said Kamyar Moinzadeh, president and CEO of Airbiquity. "Airbiquity’s solutions extend the Ford SYNC platform outside of the car, enriching the user experience with highly-relevant, important information. With VIAaq, Ford SYNC is truly the new standard for the modern era of vehicle connectivity."
